Grass is a Pain in the *&#@!

Who came up with the idea of carpeting our lawns with grass? Grass that needs to be weeded, fertilized, watered, and mowed in order to be lush and golf-course green. Does anyone actually relish the idea of hauling out their mower every Saturday morning and wasting precious moments of their free time? Take a walk around your neighbourhood on the weekend and you will find homeowners armed with weeders attacking the dandelions on their lawns. My husband removed over 500 dandelions this past weekend. Yes, he counted! Only to be vexed to discover, after a light rainfall, dozens of new golden heads popping up. As one not-so-helpful neighbour scoffed, “You’re fighting a losing battle!” So, I wonder, when exactly did dandelions become the scourge of the suburbs?
