KFC for the Cure?

Has this world gone completely mad? It seems that more often than not, money talks and common sense walks.

With all of the various cancer foundations soliciting donations these days, you might consider donating some of your hard-earned money to one of them. Well, look no further than KFC! They have recently partnered with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the largest grassroots breast cancer survivors and activists group in the world, in a fundraising campaign called “Buckets for the Cure” to help “end breast cancer forever”. KFC will donate a whopping 50 cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure from every pink bucket sold until the end of May 2010. The incredibly sad thing is, KFC’s profits are going to be the greater recipient of the “fundraising” here. Not to mention the tax benefits they will receive from the millions they end up donating.

She’s Let Herself Go?

I overheard a conversation recently between two female friends of mine that got me thinking: What does it mean to let yourself go? They were critiquing the appearance of another friend of ours who recently abandoned using make-up and dressy clothing for a more natural look. One friend observed, “She’s always wearing baggy T-shirts and doesn’t bother to wear make-up anymore. It’s like she doesn’t care about what she looks like.” And then the dreaded words: “She’s let herself go.” An image came to mind of the friend they were talking about. Yes, her appearance wasn’t business-like anymore. But my overall impression what that she seemed happy. Her face glowed with contentment, her eyes sparkled, and her clothes were more practical. And, she seemed carefree and confident—not unattractive.

Dirty Laundry

On any given evening that I go out for a run around my surrounding neighbourhoods, I cannot escape the sickening chemically-fragrant smell of dryer sheets blasting out of the dryer vents of the many homes I pass by. I often stop breathing the moment I catch a whiff of it until I pass the house it’s emanating from. Doesn’t make for a very efficient run! I must admit though, even as a non-meat eater, the smell of steak on the neighbourhood BBQs still makes me hungry!
